Samson felt content. He was in his favourite place in the world; a treat that was only granted to him on rare occasions when his People mysteriously deemed that it was okay for him to jump up on their bed for a nap. Samson was not one to question the reason though, he was just happy when it happened.
“Snort, hufffff”, Samson burrowed into the duvet, allowing his body to warm up his new nest while waiting for his mid-morning nap to begin.
“Squeal! Goo... Coo...”, the Little One has entered the room, making her usual squeaks and giggles. As usual, she was being carried by his She-Person - the Little One was very awkward and slow at moving around by herself. Samson became aware that his nap may be interrupted.
Samson took action: “HHHhhhhFFFffff,” he let out his biggest sigh.
The Little One laughed.
“Oh, Samson, there’s plenty of room for the both of you,” said She-Person as she placed the Little One on the bed and tucked her under the covers. Samson rolled onto his side dejectedly. He was not used to sharing. She-Person sensed Samson’s uncertainty and sat on the bed next to him. She smelled calm and confident as she ran her hands over his soft short coat, petting him quietly. Then she gave Samson some gentle scratches behind his ear, just where he liked it. The Little One cooed softly behind them.
Samson soon realized that his situation was not as bad as he thought; the Little One was not screaming (a most unpleasant feature of his newest Person), and Samson could smell that his She-Person had recently changed the Little One’s bottom. Samson rolled up again, yawned, and rested his head on his front paws.
Although She-Person was VERY protective of the Little One, she was still considerate towards Samson and ensured that he was included as part of the pack. She was Alpha though, and would not put up with any shenanigans.
“That’s much better, Mister”, said She-Person to Samson once she understood that he had relaxed. Samson wagged his tail in appreciation to which the Little One squealed in amusement, and clapped her hands. Sleep eventually captured Samson as the scent and sound of his People peacefully enveloped him.
